You do not have to sit outside in the dark. If, however, you want to look at the stars, you will find that darkness is necessary. But the stars neither require nor demand it.- Annie Dillard
I found this quote in the book I'm reading "Disappointment in God" by Philip Yancey. In our life span of 70 or 80 years or more, there will be times where you think you are so deep in the darkness that there's no way out. And it feels like God is no where nearby. Sometimes I ask myself am I the one hiding from Him? since we should know that "He's always around"? Then I'd ask, if God right here with me, tell me why do I feel the way I feel, tell me what to do!
Another quote from the book:
Dr. Paul Brand replied to the question "Where is God when it hurts?" that
He is in you, the one hurting, not in it, the thing that hurts.
When we're agonizing of our present state or just about how unfair this world is and complaining that why isn't He here, why isn't He doing anything about it?
Believe it or not, He is actually the one who is hurting the most. He is here. It's just that He can't interfere because He has His plan and He has a purpose. What we need to do is trust him that whatever He's putting us through, He will give you a way out.
I think the fact that He is right here with me, feeling the same as I do is extremely relieving. I once wonder that if He is somewhere remote in the heaven looking down on Earth, folding His hands and do nothing...?
This book helped me reconfirm my faith and helped me learn more about God's characteristics. It always help, not only when you're disappointed in Him.

Thank you for reminding me of that.. when we get hurt.. He's the one who hurts the most.. it's something I really have forgotten lately.. (just hope that I didn't become a hurting person that hurts others)
ReplyDeleteI do have disappointments .. a lot of which are from myself.. anger along with other emotions.. just messed up my mind... hope not any more.. hope I will be able to control my emotions.. better.. from now on..
Thank you for the post.
:] its not about controlling your emotions. sometimes u need to let it out too. but its how you deal with them, do you let them bother you? or you get over them?
