Wanna know how I got started with piano??? It's... a long long time ago.
Once upon a time, there was a Gr. 1 little girl who met a really really nice teacher. This teacher encouraged her mom and her to start doing some extra-curricular activities to enrich her life. And even more, the teacher offered to start having piano lesson with this little girl after school!!
That's how I got started with piano playing, my teacher's suggestion.
Soon, she didn't have time to teach me anymore and referred me to a professional piano teacher. This new teacher is very very patient with me. She won't get mad at me when I show up without much practice and kindly lecture me to practice!! She even cut my nails when they are too long for piano playing!! Together, we did the Gr. 2 piano exam. my first exam.
Then she left HK and referred me to her friend. This teacher is much more strict. Yet, soon after I started classes, she was pregnant and class was put on hold. In the end, before I left HK for Vancouver, we didn't take any exam or theory exam... although she was recommended for teaching theory especially.
Coming to Vancouver, it took me a long time to find a piano teacher. So I got really lazy... My teacher was a really really nice and easy-going newly-wed then. We have so much fun sharing music, talking and sharing life together. We laugh and cry together. and we are both very busy!! So we always have struggle finding time to have class. But I guess that's why I like her so much. We take long vacations sometimes without planning it! We did accomplished Gr. 5 & 6 together. I guess... after Gr. 6 exam, I really fall in love with piano. I like and enjoy producing music, because piano class is so fun. And every time I walk out of the house, I know I have learned something!! Also, since she's also a Christian, she is very helpful with my church music and gives cool advice to make a difficult piece easier for me to play (tricks), to be creative and to feel the music.
Right now, we are working on our Gr. 8 exam.. we have been postponing our exam date... for awhile ^^ I don't know when I will actually take the exam, but I don't really care neither. Piano lessons themselves are very enjoyable and I really feel that I am developing my skills anywayz. So may be in Dec of 2008... may be later... ^^
Looking back, I wasn't sure why I started with piano. But this skill has become a very important part of my serving at church and personal development. And I am very grateful for all the piano lessons throughout these years.. supported by my parents. They never push me to take exam. They just want me to enjoy!! That's why... I am really enjoying piano now.
And I want to be better!! I want to improve!!
