Love

Since Roson mentioned love in the previous post
there's something I wanted to share these days but never really get the chance to

I was reading "Blue Like Jazz" by Donald Miller
There is a chapter called Love, How to Really Love Other People

The author mentioned love in a Christian community is conditional
you will be love less if you are homosexual or you support a different political party...
but what does God tell us?
Love unconditionally.
So the author started to wonder if he started to love those who are homosexual or a Liberal, he is promoting their existence. Hinting them what they're doing is right. So what should we do?
Then he had a chance to be in a conference where a speaker talks about metaphor in the English language. The speaker asked the audience what metaphors do we use to describe cancer. Answers returned are "we fight cancer", "we battle with cancer"... We treat cancer as a deadly war and we mostly lose. However reality is that a lot of people survive and overcome cancer. One reason why cancer has high mortality rate is that we fear it.
Then the speaker asks what metaphors do we use in relationships? People responded "we value people", "we invest in people", "relationships can be bankrupt"... These are all economic metaphors, which is a major revelation. We treat relationships as money, when we think this person deserves our love, we pour our love; whereas when we dislike someone, we refrain from loving such person.
This is the mentality we have to get rid of. We need to love everybody unconditionally. And this will be a hard thing for sure, but guess what, we have our biggest weapon, prayer. Pray if you're having trouble loving someone. Pray that God can use you to pour out His love. It's really easy to pretend loving someone but doesnt in your heart. Pray that God will change your heart.

This is an innovative notion for me because I have to admit there are times when I do not love somebody and its so hard for me to love that person. I hope this little sharing will help you all too. :D
