This is the beginning...

In order to complete my application to AI culinary school. I need to submit an essay where I should state my career goal and how I think AI can help me to achieve my goal.

I just finished writing it this morning...

Every time I go into a bakery shop, I cannot help but check out all the baking goods they have even though I might not buy any at the end. I find that I am naturally attracted to the baking goods. I can stare at each of them for a long time and smell them. I imagine their taste, texture, and try to think of the ingredients and nutrition values of them. I always hope that I can one day make something like the baking goods I have seen at the bakery shops and create my own unique baking goods, bread, buns, cakes etc to share with people.

I am currently completing my last term of study at UBC and hopefully I will be able to graduate in May 2009 with a bachelor degree in science. I am in the computer science program and I have worked 16 months before to complete my coop program in computer science. I realized that computer work is not what I want to do and I want to do something that will allow me to serve people more upfront. I have been searching for my passion. In the recent years, I came to think of something crazy; or rather, I realized that my dream is one day to have my own bakery shop where I can bake my unique products to serve my community and even reach the world. I imagine that each of my products will have their own unique stories which I can share with my customers and people. I want my baking products to not only satisfy the taste buds and stomach, but also to reach people’s hearts and feed their souls. This is also my goal for my pursuit in baking and pastry. I can also imagine myself and being part of a team, one day, competing in local, regional, or even global competitions of baking and pastry, not necessary to win a reputation but share my creativity with people and to learn from them and the experience in order to improve myself.

I chose the baking and pastry program offered by Art Institute Culinary School because I believe that AI will be able to provide me the professional training and practical learning experience I need to pursue my dream. I see that AI place a high value on creativity which is also what I have been seeking in myself and life. This is really important because I believe creativity is one of the essential elements that can make one competitive and stand-out in any industry, not to mention the art of baking and pastry. I also see that AI cares about students’ personal life and well being. The services AI Student Affairs provide outside of class will be really helpful for me to get my sense of belonging to this new community.

Since I don’t have much personal experience in baking and pastry, I would expect myself to experience a steep learning curve at the beginning and during the learning process. However, I believe that AI faculty will offer their best help for me to learn and grow there. It will be exciting to meet with the industry experts and prestigious chefs and to have them to be my future instructors. It will be exciting to get to know, learn from and work with each passionate and talented individual at AI culinary school and in the culinary world.

Any comments? haha.. I applied to AI yesterday after a 3 hour interview .. by "applied" I mean I have filled out a couple of info forms and signed a few agreements and paid the application and assessment fees... There are deadlines I need to meet to complete the rest of my application... very tedious esp for me as an international student.. it's like when i applied to UBC.. In addition, I need to have a body check ....in doing this I found out my MSP expired last September! =(
haha.. it's gonna be busy next week or so for me to run errands for the application. However, they might not accept my application at the end because they select students who they think can match and meet their expectations. But first step is to show them my commitment which i did yesterday.

Anyways, now it's time to pray and do the work! haha
This is just the beginning...but yea this is the beginning.

and now I need to go catch up with my readings.. yea .. school is getting busy already =\
